Match Report - 07 Nov 2009, St Francis Rangers FC 1st Team lost to Arundel
Rangers entertained Arundel in the third round of the john o’hara league cup. The opening exchanges were even and after 16 minutes james Westlake was clippewd in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Up stepped skipper Maynard to score. 1-0.
Rangers were on top and went close when Russell Turpin’s good cross from the left was headed just wide by sam palmer. Arundel were level when the bounce of the ball deceived Maynard and allowed Dan Towers to fire home from 10 yards 20mins 1-1.
The rest of the first half saw few chances with neither keeper unduly troubled. H t1-1
Jamie Weston got on the end of a josh hawkes pass but a defender was able to clear the danger. James Westlake saw his fierce drive pushed round the post for a corner. On 50 minutes scott tipper was on hand to score from close range and 3 minutes later made the game safe when Ashley Martin saw his shot saved, Newman reacted while others watched to score. Rangers replaced Turpin with Harris on 60 minutes in an attempt to salvage something. 6 minutes later greg archer replaced josh hawkes.
Arundel went further ahead when Martin converted a cross at the far post. 1-4. Martin was subbed before the restart. Wimbleton scored a 5th when his header hit the bar and bounced down the linesman awarded the goal 76 minutes. Martin gainey replaced sam palmer on 78 minutes. Manager Roy Staughton told the players that the second half performance was not good enough.
