Match Report - 28 Nov 2009, St Francis Rangers FC 1st Team drew with Mile Oak
The weather had taken its toll on a number of games but the mile oak pitch drains well. Mile oak are a big side and play to their strengths. They also have some who can play a bit. On of these showed his intent when he shot wide after 3 minutes. Rangers moved the ball well but the final pass often failing to find the target. Some fine one touch football between Weston ,Westlake and pitcher saw the home keeper get a hand to the goal bound flick from pitcher.
Mile Oak took the lead on 17 minutes when Howard was sent away down the left, he cut back inside carruthers and fired a rasping drive inside the far post just out of the reach of the fully stretched lehkyj. 1-0.
Rangers continued to create opportunities with the pitcher, Weston ,Westlake combination winning a corner. Matt Carruthers header just cleared the bar.
James Weston saw his goal bound shot headed off the line by nick Lansdale.
The defence of carruthers, Ben Palmer, Glenn Charker and Brannon O’Neill were restricting mile oak the occasional long range effort. Mile oak lost clay lamont when he injured his knee and was replaced by daryl livesley after 40 minutes. Half time
1-0.
The second half began and right on cue so did the rain. Rangers continued to look for the equaliser. Rangers went close when Jamie Weston sent luke akehurst away on the left, he cut inside and beat the keeper only to see ryan sergeant clear this goal bound effort over the bar. Rangers were on top and kept the pressure on. Elliott butler and jake forward were pulling the strings in the middle of the park and had mile oak on the back foot with the occasional long ball from defence which the rangers defence dealt with. Butler saw his shot deflected for a corner on 63 minutes.
Rangers were level after 67 minutes when Butler chipped towards the goal and Pitcher was on hand to finish. The mile oak defenders were unhappy with the finish and 2 of them talked themselves into the referees book.1-1.
The game was more open and butlers strong run was ended when he was tackled from behind as he approached mile oaks box. Brannon O’Neill was in the right place to to head off the line. Pitcher’s shot was deflected for a corner. O’Neil was cautioned for a tackle and Carruthers made 2 fine tackles going to ground and nicking the ball off the opponent.
Rangers replaced Jamie Weston with Sam Palmer on 79 minutes. A fast break saw Westlake fire over the bar. Mile oak went close and then Sam Palmer headed wide from westlake’s cross. Jake forward went on a great run going past 4 defenders, his cross was hit over the bar by pitcher. The referee ended the match and as they left the field showed a red card to an unused mile oak substitute for an alledged incident
