Match Report
Match Report - 23 Aug 2011, St Francis Rangers FC 1st Team lost to Crowborough Athletic
Rangers 0 Crowborough 5
Rangers were dealt a hammering by the hosts and left with their tails between their legs.
The home side gave a lesson to the visitors in commitment and team work, desire and determination. Far too many Rangers players didn't complete the basics of passing, movement and commitment.
The opening 15 minutes were pretty even with Rangers failing to covert any of the 3 opening chances. Crows opened the scoring with their first attack when in decision between Baker and Dodds gifted the winger an easy finish.
That was the start of the abysmal performance and further poor defending should have seen Crows go 2 up but they hit the post. Rangers hit a couple of long range efforts but the woeful defending continued through the match. Hollick should have cleared but dallied too long, the ball nicked from him and the cross expertly headed home at the far post.
Some of the Rangers defending was simply woeful and even school boys would have been ashamed!
Right on the stroke of half time more poor defending saw Crows hit their third, totally unmarked at a corner. 3-0 at half time and a fair reflection of the half.
The first 15 minutes was similar to the first, pretty even. Will Macfie was put clean through but his lob went over. After that it was a similar story to the first half with some lacklusture defending from Rangers.
It wasn't long before they scored a fourth after more hesitant defending and poor passing gifted them a goal. Further chances went begging as the Crows looked to humiliate rangers and they duly wrapped up the scoring towards the end. The home side summer up their performance when the 2 subs combined to score, both making an impact. The home players continued to compete and win every ball right to the end as their desire drove them to the final whistle, a complete contrast to the pathetic effort from the majority of the Rangers team.
Rangers can take nothing from the game other than the new bags that were delivered!
The players and management will need to have a good shake up if they are to do anything other than struggle this season.
The club is desperate to find a centre back as it struggles to cope with the 6 missing centre backs at present.
