Match Report - 05 Nov 2011, St Francis Rangers FC 1st Team drew with Selsey

Selsey hit a late equalizer to deny Rangers their first win since early august.

A Pople penalty just before half time put Rangers ahead and they looked comfortable until a late strike by Rob Wimble denied them. Rangers have now let in late equalisers in their past 3 games costing them 6 points in total.

Tom Djamaludin returned to the side after 10 weeks out injured and was instrumental in making Rangers look a lot more solid. He was supported by debutant keeper rob Gordon who had a faultless afternoon, and already looks to be the key experienced keeper the club has desperately been looking for.

The back 4 coped well with most things thrown at them, mainly threats from long balls, as they had a fair bit of defending to do as Rangers failed to hold the ball up top.

As an attacking force it was Rangers poorest display for a few weeks. Injuries meant a half fit Aaron Walsh having to start up front and he, along with a number of players failed to stamp their authority on the game.

Too many passes went astray and the players looked a bit flat and leaden footed. The first half became a battle of the long ball against the Rangers defence with the visitors coimng out on top. It wasn't much of a spectacle as neither side really got going.

Pamment was Rangers most attacking threat down the left and he created half chances for Arnoux and Pople before twice firing shots on target.

Wimble headed wide from Selsey's only first half effort whilst Carruthers had Rangers best effort butfrom a deep cross he failed to pull the back for the unmarked Pople .

As the half looked to end goalless Pople was tripped as he danced into the box and cooly converted.

The second half was similar with neither side able to find any rythem, both relying on long range efforts.

Arnoux had Rangers best chances in the last 20 minutes, both created by his own work rate and pressure. His first effort saw him round the keeper before somehow having his effort blocked, then minutes later he went through but had his effort saved.

Despite gifting easy possession away Rangers looked comfortable but with just 6 minutes left a long punt court Djamaludin wrong side and Wimble slotted home. Having been out for so long it was not a surprise Djamaludin tired, but it was his only mistake all afternoon.
